Hi,

Im going to buy a new desktop mainly for gaming, now i found a cheap build that gives me what i was looking for.

I3 4150
Msi gtx 750 ti
H81m-hds
Coolermaster elite 342
Crucial 8GB 3pc-12800 kit
Be quiet power 7 400 watt
Samsung 850 evo 250GB

My father told me spending another 60 bucks would give me an i5 4460 which would be better for the long run. So i will not have outdated components in a year or 2.

Should i stick with this build or should i switch the i3 4150 for an i5 4460?

If i switch my 4150 for a 4460 should i get another motherboard aswell? Like an h97 instead of a h-81. What is the nessecity of this?

Solution
the $60 would be better spent on a better GPU, like an r9 280 or 280X. this will require a larger PSU though, but would be well worth it. the difference in gaming performance relies much more on the quality of the GPU than it does on the CPU. the i5 would be superior to the i3, and would probably be more useful in the long run, but both CPUs will be more than enough to power a 750ti.

as for the difference between h81 and h97, there is little. the h97 has pci 3.0 instead of 2.0 (likely to have very little performance difference when gaming) and the h97 also has broadwell support and supports haswell refresh without worrying about bios updates. you can see the full list here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1150

Is this something that you're going to build yourself? If so then you should get a 1TB HDD rather than a 250GB SSD because games are getting huge. You would find yourself running out of space quickly with just that SSD. It's ideal to have a small SSD like 120GB just for the OS and smaller programs and another larger drive for other data like games. Give us your budget and someone here might be able to find you a better deal on the parts if you're building.

RAM comes with GPU is you get it fast.

Ignore the incompatibility warning at partpiker, the Z5 supports GPUs up to 330mm long (13'')
