Do keep in mind that overclocking is not a problem, and that two of these cost about the same in my country, and yea, power consumption is not an issue, so is that big single thread performance gap really worth choosing dual core over 8 core?
thank you

P.S.
I'm planing to put one of these with r9 380

Is a four cylinder turbo better than an eight cylinder with fuel injection?

If your load is lots of low thread-count, the i3 is completely superior, as many benchmarks show. If you are doing lots of multi-thread work that can use all four of the 8300's modules, then the FX is superior, as benchmarks also show.

What are you going to use this for?
Do you plan to overclock the FX?
Have you allowed for the difference in motherboard cost between i3 and FX 8300 to enter your calculations?
Have you allowed for the FX8300 needing an aftermarket CPU cooler most of the time.
Have you allowed for a more robust PSU for the FX8300 + 380 vs i3 + 380.

Both choices are a bit unsatisfactory to me. I'm glad I don't have to make them myself.

Admirable
i3 if you are just gaming, FX if you are rendering, streaming and recording.

a better setup (as @turbopiki mentioned) is a i5 4460 (or even 4440 or 4430) with a h97 board (but cheaper boards are still good) is a better setup than both of these two cpu's.

First of all, thank you all for your help, I looked a little closer on a build I was trying to make and I managed to squeeze in i5 4460, but I had to replace 4gb r9 380 with 2 gb version and put 21.5 inches monitor instead of 24", is it worth it?

8gb of ddr3 ram (kingston hyper x fury 1866, cheapest one of that capacity)
toshiba 500gb hard drive 7200rpm 32mb (it's enough for my needs as I have 500gb in my laptop and it's enough for games, multimedia and everything I need not sure about quality of this one, but price is great because it's on sale now)
xfx 550w 80+ (again cheapest one of that quality, and xfx is respected brand or so I've heard)
MSI H97 PCMATE mobo
r9 380 2gb or gtx 960 2gb (about same cost on both)
i5 4460
Case, mouse and keyboard I already have
and some aoc screen 5ms 21.5"

It will be used mostly for games and other non demanding usual stuff like watching movies, browsing etc, maybe some light editing in future, and in future once I save enough money I will buy an ssd, but that is not my priority for now
