i3 4160 vs Quad Q8400 | Is there a difference?

So I currently have a Core 2 Quad Q8400 which has 2.66 ghz processing speed.
Now for my next PC which I am supposed to be getting in two weeks will have a Core i3 4160 which has 3.6 ghz..
I've been searching alot for which one is better and it turned out that the Quad even has slightly better gaming performance than i3. So I wanted to know, is i3 really worth it or will I stay in the same place if I buy it?

I can't see a scenario where that i3 won't handily beat the q8400.
