my current build for my travel pc is a i3 4350, h81m-p33, gtx 960, 8gb ddr3 500gb 7200rpm hhd. would it be worth buying a z170a-x1, g4560, and 8gbs of ddr4 ram? that would cost me about $200 and would it be worth it performance wise? or would i be better off just keeping my current settup as is? perhaps just staying with the 1150 socket and going with a cpu upgrade, if so what cpu should i pickup in 1150?

Solution
I would say get yourself a 4690 or 4590 instead, better performance, You may need to do a BIOS upgrade for it to work first though depending on how old the board is)
The only reason to get the Pentium is if you had plans to grab a Kaby Lake i5/i7 in the near future. You'd have a ready made platform for that CPU upgrade and the Pentium is pretty cheap so not a lot of money spent. As Snipergod87 says the 4690 makes the most sense from a right now performance point of view though.
