I3 530 question.

My question is simple, do they make Intel Core i3-530 Dual Core Processors with LGA775 sockets? Or is it only LGA1156?

Only for LGA1156. LGA775 was for Core 2.

What motherboard do you have? Socket 775 CPUs range from Pentium™ 4 to Core 2™ Extreme. Depending on the motherboard/motherboard's chipset you have, you could upgrade to any CPU within that range.

I know I have a motherboard with a 775 socket, which is fine with me, I just wanna know if I should get an Intel Pentium D 940 3.2GHz Dual Core Processor. I primarily use it for gaming, like Prototype, GTA4, CSS, etc. I have a GeForce 9600GT with 4gb ram and 500w PSU. Just want my crappy CPU upgraded and wonder if an Intel Pentium D 940 would be good for that type of setup.

What is your motherboard? It might support a Core 2 Duo/Quad which would be a better choice than the Pnetium D is.

Ahhh. Thats the mobo. You have a Inspiron 530. This is what I found:

It seems that it can support up to the dual core 45nm CPUs.

Any of those would blow your current CPU and the Pentium D 940 away.

For 45nm Core™ 2 Duo CPUs, IIRC, you need to flash your BIOS to the newest available version.
