How bad is the bottleneck if I pair a 980 with an i3-6100. Yea, I know it's stupid to pair a 980 with an i3-6100 I just need to for the time being until I'm able to afford a better CPU. I just wanna know about how much fps would I be sacrificing if I play let's say gta 5, also would a 1060 6b be less bottleneck?

I'd just like to point out whether it bottlenecks or not is unimportant. What is important is the question of will adding a 980 get you the performance you want?

What I mean is if the i3 gets you 60fps in GTA V with the 980, but you'd get 85fps with an i5- that's a bottleneck, sure. But does it matter? No, not if you wanted 60fps. Do you have a monitor with a refresh rate high enough to take advantage of 85fps? If not, 60fps is all you need.

The 980 will generally outperform the 1050 Ti but in CPU limited games at 1080p the difference might not be worth paying for. It's impossible to say without knowing the cost of the two cards you're comparing.

By the way, if you have an i3 6100 you know you can upgrade to an i5 6xxs quad core...
If you have the i3 (or its all you can afford right now) just go with it for the time being. So long as you plan to upgrade soon there is no need to worry about bottlenecks.

The 1060 and 980 are very similar in performance, I would take whatever is cheaper (due to the mining shortages)

I won't be able to upgrade my cpu soon since I also need to save up for new mobo,

dumb question, so would the 980 with i3 run better than a 1050 ti with i3?

By the way, if you have an i3 6100 you know you can upgrade to an i5 6xxs quad core right? That way you still use the motherboard and ram you have now but get the benefits of the more powerful CPU. Don't bother with a 1060 if you will be sticking with the i3 for awhile.
