i3 6100 or FX 8350 with GTX 1050 Ti - Gaming Build

So basically I'm building a PC as a gaming only substitute to my workstation PC. it's going to have a GTX 1050 Ti in it. I'm wondering - Should I get an FX 8350 and OC it to 4.5 GHz or just get a sky lake i3 6100? This PC will be used for gaming. I understand that Intel has much stronger cores but also games tend to lean towards multi core processors. It's 2017 and I want to know the best option for gaming.

go with Intel .. if you are in a rush else wait for the Zen processors from AMD .. which should be released early 2017

Hi, im sure Ill get alot of hate for this, but go for the i3. It has MUCH stronger single core performance and still pretty good multi core performance because of its hyper-threading. The i3 also gives you a good upgrade path, whereas, the FX doesnt.

Frankly, I can't recommend either one.

The FX-8350 overclock is still going to be a significant bottleneck at times, and you'll also need a better CPU cooler and motherboard than you'd need with an i3-6100.

If you're forced to choose, go with the i3-6100 and then upgrade the CPU later (and sell the i3-6100).

*I highly recommend fitting an Intel quad-core in the budget, or wait for ZEN and see what they offer that is quad-core or better (not four threads, but four cores).

ZEN may be sold out and possibly over-priced though at first.

This is really true.

OP, it really would be better to save $50 more dollars and get an i5 6500.

Ofcourse an i5 is a better cpu than the i3, but the i3 is really not going to bottleneck a gtx 1050ti. You wont see any difference between an i3 and i5 with a gtx 1050ti, only when you have something like a gtx 1070 you will see some difference and even then it depends on the game. But the i3 is definitly the way to go, the FX platform is dead and already 5 years old.

The i3 6100 equals or beats an OC'd FX8350 in all the gaming reviews I've seen. It also gives you an upgrade path. There is,no reason th choose the FX8350. The 6100 is a remarkably good gaming CPU for the money
