i3 6100 vs fx 6300

The i3 is much stronger now for gaming but that could change some with DX12 games that are developed to use more threads. The big advantage to the i3 is that you can always upgrade to an i5 or i7 later if games do start using multiple threads. The FX has limited upgrade potential, uses more power, and doesn't have onboard graphics.

I think in just 1 year time DX12 will be mainstream. Forza 6 Apex PC demo coming within a month with full DX12 support. New graphics cards releasing soon too, with HBM 2.0 being here within a year on top of that. Some games are updated to support DX12, like the new Tomb Raider. I think the progress is there.

For some builds, I still find use for the FX-8320E and a cheap 970 motherboard. People who do rendering tasks and light gaming (Mostly just 30-45 fps and in some 60 fps). Would be great if most games suddenly could run closer to 60 fps, if the GPU is good enough.

Pick i3,Z170 mobo and High speed RAM like 3000+ Mhz ,cuz that will help i3 in CPU heavy games.Later in year or so you can sell i3 and get i5 or i7 if you want more performance out of your PC and you feel need for it.Fine Z170 mobo is MSI Z170-A PRO.It supports RAM speed up to 3200Mhz and it wont break your wallet.

Or choose an ASRock Z170 motherboard with SkyOC and the right BIOS version, along with the i3-6100, and you'll still be able to OC that non-k cpu, like 4.4-4.5 Ghz if possible.

I see no point in investing in the AM3+ platform now, regardless of what DX12 may have to offer. The architecture is outdated and wasn't much to write home about even when it launched.

DX12 will become the new standard at some point, but that doesn't mean that DX11 will drop off the face of the Earth. It'll still be supported for a long time to come on account of people keeping hold of their DX11 components.

All things considered, the 6100 is the better CPU, but I'd push for a 6500 if you can.
