I'm building a PC, I was wondering whether it would work with the i3 6100. Intel warned that using ddr3 with a skylake processor could cause damage long term. is this true?

motherboard: ASUS B150M-A D3 LGA 1151 Intel B150
memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
cpu: intel i3 6100

Solution
Skylake processors only officially support DDR3L and DDR4 RAM. DDR3L is low voltage RAM (1.35V) that tends to be clocked lower and have higher latencies than regular DDR3 which is 1.5 or 1.65V. Intel has issued a statement that using regular DDR3 with a Skylake processor could damage the CPU's memory controller over long term usage. If you're buying new RAM anyway, just get DDR4 and an appropriate board for it if you want a Skylake processor. If you have 1.5V or 1.65V DDR3 that you really want to use in your new build, you should probably look at the older Haswell platform.
Yes it is. They are designed to work with DDR4 or DDR3L (the l means low voltage) The mem controller on the CPU was not designed to work with standard DDR3. That said it may work but there is a decent chance it could fry the mem controller.

DDR4/DDR3L = 1.35V
DDR3 = 1.5V

I already have ddr3 memory so it be best to go with a different processor. What haswells are decent? i3 4170?

It's usually considered the best value i3 for the Haswell lineup, with the i3 4370 being priced much higher for little gain in performance.

I simply don't understand then why motherboard companies are producing ddr3 board for sky lake.
I can't find ddr3l in my country but ddr3 or ddr4 is no issue.
Sure they is price differences.
And if board or processor get fired the company will not take them back

N only heavy board with ddr4 is available and one board with ddr4 don't support HDMI port. Asus h110mk
