Considering the 8350k can generate around 100%+ performance,,,
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i3-8350K-vs-AMD-Athlon-II-X4-860K/3935vs3265 , the 8100 will definitely give you atleast 70%-75% performance boost. So it is definitely a solid upgrade, but Intel has not yet stated any definitive date for the cheaper 300 series boards and it could be a long wait.
Also considering Intels chipset support history, it would be an unrealistic expectation that it will support IceLake. There is a z390 board planned for 2nd half of next year which is rumored to support IceLake. But all of that is speculative and all we can do is hope for the best, until something definitive comes from Intel.
