Looking at a couple Dell desktops both have the HD 630 graphics.

The one with the i3 8100 is $52 less money than the i5 7400, just wanted to get your thoughts.

I also can save $100 and get a Dell tower with the i5 3470 that seems to be loved by many but not sure what integrated graphics are on that

Just very light gaming from older games and editing and watching video

Solution
not knowing anything else about the systems.

i3-8100 is a 4 core 4 thread 3.6GHz
i5-7400 is a 4 core 4 thread 3.0Ghz boosts to 3.5Ghz

I would take the i3-8100 as they are the same core/thread count, the 8100 is a newer cpu so it should have an advantage core for core on the 7400. And if down the road you can upgrade it to an i7 6 core 12thread where the 7th gen tops out at 4 core 8 thread.

You(we)'re essentially limited to looking at prebuilts only? Might want to share the links to all three options. To add, I'd suggest that you state your maximum budget for your purchase, often times you can get a good deal on prebuilts but I'd suggest you look into building your own system provided this isn't for an office.

Thanks Lutfij. After seeing the prebuilds are only $150-$245 that come with 8 GB Ram, Win 10 and COA + new keyboard and mouse, building for me is not an option. These pre build also have room to add a graphics card later if I want.

Just wanted to know the difference in the chips since I mostly just want a very nice video watching/editing system, games are a far second and honestly probably not even an issue

Ty. I basically want a streaming box for my external HD's and streaming online and this seems like a good deal ($245) for an i3 8100 Dell Vostro 4 GB DDR4 Ram / 1 TB SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) . I should be able to ugrade RAM easily

Windows 10, I am not in love with, but I will take it I guess lol
