i3 8100 with gtx 1080

Can I use the new coffee lake i3 8100 with GTX 1080?
I know quite a bit about PC and components but how do I tell if I can use those two together?

If you are playing 4k, it is good enough
If you are playing 1440p, and want 144FPS, you will need coffee lake I5, I7 preferred.

However that's an odd unbalanced setup, high end gpu with introductory level cpu.

Well planning on playing 1080p dual monitor one 60 refresh rate and other 144. One for gaming other for social media or spotify..

. The 1200 or maybe 1400 is for PC and I have money one other side for monitor, mouse, keyboard etc.
