I am a Computer Science student.
I want to buy an intel processor laptop of any faithful brand for programming basically.
So which one is better for running large programs taking care of Price also.

The difference between Core i3 and Core i5 is actually fairly small when it comes to laptops (it's much bigger on desktops). Core i5s will generally run at higher clocks for more performance, but the letter at the end actually makes just as big a difference. M, H, and E models usually run the highest clocks, while U reduces clocks and power consumption moderately, and Y reduces them more dramatically.

Only difference between the i3 and i5 on laptops is the i5 has turbo boost, the i3 doesn't. Back in the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge days, this wasn't that big a deal - maybe only 10%-15% extra speed for the i5. Starting with Haswell though, the turbo boost became a lot bigger (especially with the U and Y processors), giving you a 33%-50% speed boost. Consequently the i5 is usually a substantial upgrade over the i3 now.

I would take a laptop with an i5 because it is 4/4threads as opposed to 2cores/4threads but I agrre that the difference is not as significant for laptops as it would be for dektops. For programming alone and general computer use, you could get by with only integrated graphics (some dedicated gpu's in laptops have very poor performance, sometimes lower than some igpu's). Also, when picking a laptop, make sure to read reviews about that particular laptop. P.S. In your place I would pick soth with an i5 (higher clocked model), 8gb of ram, 7200rpm HDD (It most certainly don't have an ssd at this price point).

Not the latest i5 gen Skylake-H, they are 4 cores 4 threads.
