For gaming the i5's are better. They have more cores than the i3's and are generally more faster in gaming.

i5 3570k is a king at gaming but do state your max budget for a processor. In addition, I would say not to go with your power supply you have selected.

Yes it will technically work it is a socket 1155 so the processor will fit the socket. However if you plan on overclocking (and I would since you are getting a "k" version") you would be better off getting the Z77 chipset. This chipset will allow for better overclocking.

Why would you buy and i3 and just save up for an i5? rather save up now buy the i5. Well the i3 is not that good in gaming not all intel chips are for gaming. So I would go for the amd-6300 it is about the same price and it exceeds the i3 its more future proof considering that steamroller will probably be on am3+ and other construction vehicle code names.

If he can barely afford an i3 what makes you think he can get the 670 or 7970?

Actually in non online games the i3 3220 will beat any amd processor in gaming, it takes the new 8350 + overclocking to even compete as most games are 1-2 cores.

On the rare games where you can use more than 2, they still trade blows.

Everyone knows that the 8350 is meant for multitasking as well like the i7 so why even bring in the 8350 when you know it will not preform as well?

To make the point that even the newest "best" amd processor is still not much better than a lowly i3 at gaming.

The 8350 beats the i3 in everything else. The 8350 does better than the i3 in gaming? benchmarks show it.

The OP asked about gaming, everything else doesn't matter, and yes after spending $190 for the cpu + the price of an aftermarket cooler, it can beat the i3 in gaming... Barely...
