[SOLVED] I5-2400 or FX-6300

My current build :
AMD Athlon x4 640
Asus M5A78L-M (AM3+)
2x4 GB 1600Mhz RAM
Gigabyte GTX 750 OC 2GB
Stock AMD cooler

So I decided to upgrade my cpu because it performs not very well (in gaming but also in general usage) . I was thinking about replacing with FX-6300 that I found localy for around 40$. I also found I5-2400 with motherboard and stock intel cooler for 55$ and now i can't decide what to buy . What should I buy ? Keep in mind that my current motherboard is not capible of overclocking since it supports 95W CPUs only . I know that i5 is better in games but it offen hits 100% usage and because of that it can cause lag spikes .

Make and model of your PSU and it's age? I'd say the 2nd Gen Intel if the choice is between those two. If gaming, you should look at an i7, in 2021.

LC Power LC600H-12 600W PSU . Its 2 years old so I don't think it should make any problems .

Also depends of the condition of the mobo with the 2400

I would definitely go intel, I ran an fx 8350 for two years and single threaded gaming performance was terrible and to top it off I could have probably cooked eggs on top of my tower with that mini space heater.

Both are a good upgrade from what you have, but the i5 has an upgrade path that's cheap and easy too with the i5-2500k and i7-2600k, both of which were great overclockers in their day too:
