So i have had a 2x8 set of ddr3 2400mhz ram. for the longest time ive used only 8 because both wont let it post. Im like "Okay... ill just change the mhz speed.." tried that and it wouldnt work either. i dont want to mess with the timings or any of that crap until someone tells me how im supposed to do it. Any suggestions?

My pc:
Mobo: asus p8h61-m le/csm
CPU: i5 2500
Ram: Corsair Vengeance pro 16gb

P.S I dont want any.. just upgrade to DDR4 and get a new processor and mobo crap because i dont have any money.. just too much time on my hands..

Yeah i forgot to mention that i have tested both slots and ram sticks.. they both work fine.. also the mobo only has 2 slots

Is this your board:
https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/P8H61M_LECSM_R20/specifications/

I so, what jumps out at me is:
* 1600MHz and higher frequency is supported by Intel® 3rd generation processors.

Are you on the latest BIOS and maybe only 3rd gen CPU's support highest speed RAM.

Im not too sure... i look on it and it just said that but without the 2.0 part... i think its hard to find now or they removed it from their website..
also i didnt think about upgrading my bios! ill look into that!

That sucks...rev x.0x...jeeze. Well, I'll see if I can find the non-R2.0

ASUS has nothing about a non-R2.0 version. You could try updating the BIOS, but there is a chance it could brick the board as incompatible. But it might also, just tell you it's not compatible and stop the update, unless it goes in....

Yeah i think im just gonna have to stick with 8gigs... sadly... it would have been nice to have 16 tho cuz i do alot of music and stuff but hey i dont wanna break my pc XD... Thanks for the advice! :D

If you can find a way to confirm it's a R2.0, then try the update. But it still might be only a 3rd gen CPU that supports the faster RAM.

If you need more RAM, you can try the Windows Readyboost, or whatever they call it now and see if that helps. It uses a thumbdrive as RAM.

I checked my brothers old mobo which is the exact same as mine and it says Asus P8H61-m le/csm... it is possible we may have different ones.. Also i dont think readyboost is right for me.. my pc isnt slow it would just be nice to have that extra ram i paid for.

Edit: I have looked around and the i5 2500 only supports up to 1333, which is fine, but the lowest i can set my ram is 800mhz so it wont want two... if im not mistaken whatever i set the first ram stick to (800mhz) will double it when i put the second in... making it 1600mhz which exceeds the limit. the best thing would be to either get some new ram or get like a i5 3450... but i could be completely wrong because this exceeds my knowledge...

What speed RAM is he using and what CPU? Also, if you look closely at the motherboard model name, is there some small text that says something like "Rev. 1.05"? Would be at the bottom right of the stamped on board name.

If you zzom in on the 4th pic of this listing, you can see what I mean:
