I5-2500 vs i5-3470

I am looking for used CPUs to upgrade over my i3-3210. My mobo fried so I am getting a new mobo.

I found i5-2500 used at rs 7500(+100 shipping) while i5-3470 at rs 8500. I was going with 2500 but I have Kingston hyperx fury 8 gb 1866Mhz ram so I got to know that I will have to use with 1366 speed as it's max supported by CPU. So I came up with i5 3470 which is 3rd gen same as with my current CPU which supports higher frequency. I want to know the performance wise difference between those two and also if it s worth that 1000rs extra.

I also have some problem choosing my mobo, i came up with Asus h61m-cs, i want to know if it supports 1866Mhz ram and if it's worth it.


I have r7 265 and play heavy CPU intensive games like bf1, bf4, Planetside 2 ,etc .

I want to know if it will work fine with antec VP 500pc

I'd take the 3470 just because its likely to be a year newer & supports faster ram - its slightly stronger but insignificant.
Board will take 1866 ram but will only run at 1600mhz.
PSU is fine.

H61 boards only support up to 1600mhz , the 1866 ram will work fine but only at 1600mhz - not really an issue.


That eBay deal ?? Whoever bought that for a bargain if its legitimate.

That seller has NO feedback rating though at all.

The CPU doesn't dictate memory speed, a 2500 can run with faster RAM just fine. It's all dependent on the motherboard.

hello.. i need an help from you regarding the pc you were talking about that contains an Antec vp 500pc... i am going to buy an ups for that psu.. but many forums are stating that it will not work only with a pure sine wave ups which are too expensive in my country... instead i was thinking of buying the stepped sine wave ups that are lot cheaper like the apc ones... can u please tell me what are your suggestions according to your build and what UPS have you used in the build??
