I currently have my i5 2500k OC'd to 4.2 GHz to power a pair of AMD 7950's OC'd in Crossfire. I was given a free i7 4770 (non-k edition) when a friend upgraded. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth buying a 1150 motherboard for the newer i7, which I can't OC, or if I should just stick with my older i5 which has been running like a champ for years now.

If it helps, I play on a triple monitor setup 20" 30" 20" in PLP mode for 5760x1600 total resolution - all gfx settings on "ultra". I'm generally well over the 60 Hz limits of all 3 monitors, but I do occasionally dip to the 50s with lots of on-screen action. I'm just not sure how much any of those dips may CPU related or if it's something else (GPUs, RAM, writing to disk, network latency, etc)

Hmm, someone else pointed this article out to me. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r28517633-I5-2500K-vs-I7-4770K-Gaming-Benchmarks They were comparing a 2500k vs 4770k, which isn't quite what I'm looking at, but looking at the OC'd 2500k, it's well above the stock 4770k. I guess the 4770 benchmarks much better, but it's not noticeable in most gaming scenarios. I'll keep digging to see if I can find some WoW specific benchmarks to help finalize my decision, but I'm leaning toward just keeping my 2500k.
