Hi everyone,
Well right now i have i5-2500k with z67 asus rog maximus iv gene -z gen3 mobo with corsair vengenance running at 1600 mhz 16 gb with h90 water cooler from corsair with sapphire 7950 gpu, i am thinking of upgrading my gpu first right now to gtx 1070 or gtx 1080 since i have a 144hz monitor asus vg248qe.

I need your opinion guys whether should i get gtx 1080 or gtx 1070 right now, since i debating to upgrade my motherboard and processor in few months down the line. Right now i am running my processor on stock speed. Should i over clock my processor, upgrade ram to 2133 mhz from 1600 mhz and upgrade the gpu to either gtx 1080 or gtx 1070, or upgrade gpu right now and get a new mobo and processor in few months.

Kindly do let me know guys about the options. i can order from newegg and amazon.

I had a 2500k @ 4.4Ghz with a 980ti (about same as 1070). In my 2 fav games the CPU was at 100% usage and GPU was not. Once I swapped to new i7-7700k I was able to get GPU back to 100% usage and my fps went from 75fps to 90 in BF1. So I gained quite a bit in a 5yr old upgrade of CPU. The 2500k is still great but if you want more fps and have aging architecture then you gotta upgrade CPU. I have no regrets. And the 2500k was excellent for 5yrs.

So getting the 1080 is still worth it as CPU/Mobo/RAM are upgrading soon.

If there is a 1070ti then it is retarded. 1070 and 1080 are pretty close already. The real jump is 1080 to 1080ti. So getting a 1070ti seems weird as the 1070 and 1080 have been out since May/June of 2016. Over a year...
Don't upgrade anything other than GPU. The rest will need upgrade soon. Intel has a new 6core coming out that will be attractive. I had a 2500k overclocked to 4.4GHz and it limited my 980ti (close to gtx 1070). I upgraded and fps bumped up by 10fps in BF1. But regardless of GPU you need a system overhaul. Just wait a couple months though for main components.

Well getting a 1080 gtx right now and upgrading motherboard processor and ram next month sounds a good proposition, right now my 7950 gpu is showing its age and giving me screen freeze a few times. So getting a gtx 1080 right now will it be future proof for some time??? and getting the 8th generation coffee lake cpu with those specs looks good. Whats the final verdict?

You can overclock the 2500K to 4.5GHz pretty easy with the right settings in your bios. You will want to go with the 1080. Here is a link to recent benchmark with the 2500K@4.4GHz. Depending on the title, at 1080p the 1070 and 1080 are fairly close. Looking at prices right now, it's worth it too get a 1080, but the 1070Ti release october 26 and offers similar performance to the 1080 for $399.

Unless the 1070ti is less than the 1070 it seems comical. And just Nvidia twiddling their thumbs.

I have friends in Canada that don't pay hardly anything for electricity. Power draw doesn't bother them. And here are the numbers from Tom's Hardware Review. Apparently, Nvidia doesn't like having a AMD card beating it in any segment.

I mean yeah i've seen the charts for the vega and its performance (sorry i can't quote, mobile does not let me) and I'm speaking for me at least its a better value to hold on to my 290x for one more generation then go out and spend some money on a card that has slightly worse power draw then my heavily overclocked 290x at stock. But yeah if you don't really need to worry about power draw then its a no brainer for sure.

Right now I have it clocked at 1165 core / 1550 memory on water cooling and i think the highest in game i've pulled maybe 320 watts, synthetic tests pull me well over 350 watts. But I mean on a 1080p 60hz monitor I have no trouble maxing anything out. But like I said thats just me, just waiting on Navi to see if the power usage goes down because where I live electricity is very expensive .

The advantage I see on the AMD side is Freesync. Freesync monitors sell for a more reasonable price than Gsync. Although I prefer Gsync as it isn't limited to a range, say 30-90fps. A comparable Freesync monitor sells for $200 less than Gsync. However, the GPU to push those monitors isn't really there from AMD. sad.

As for power draw. AMD cpus and gpus always seem to need more. And more power adds to power bill...not huge but it exists. Also, more power means more heat. The 290x was good but wow it was hot.

If the 1070ti really sells at $399, and not at the inflated prices we have seen for GPUs this year, then its a good value buy. But it still doesn't perform as the 1080 and that price reflects it.
