I5 2500k motherboard options

After a bit of investigating CPUs, i'm looking to upgrade my existing Windows XP intel system to an ATX-sized intel i5 2500K processor, with 8GB memory (2x4gb) and a compatible motherboard. My performance requirements are based on the following activities:

1) HDD video editing (cropping, converting to other formats, etc.
2) SONAR Cakewalk sound editing/recording/conversions/exports to mp3, WAV etc.
3) MS Office tools
4) Finale music software, composition, MIDI recording/playback/ WAV file exports

I do not need a gaming machine however.

I currently use a Creative Audigy 2Z sound card, so that I have RCA in/out jacks on the front of the desktop, which make recording a bit less odious.

My question is, what would be a "mid-range- (?) $75-$140) range motherboard that would fit the bill here? Is the Intel BOXDH67CL an adequate option for my needs, or would a different brand/model be more power for the $?

hmm, for gaming 2500k is recommended cpu for editing,converting,cropping etc i will recommend 2600k because it has hyperthreading technology which can help about 35% in those type of applications and also 2600k have 4 extra threads which is very useful get motherboard asrock z68 extreme3 this one is available for your budget.

xtreme5, thanks for the help... I have a question though... I'm looking at MicroCenter near Cinci for most of this, and it doesn't appear that they have the extreme3 z68. I'm guessing (?) that the P67 extreme4 Gen3 is a different animal? It's also more expensive than the extreme3... Given that I'll probably not need to overclock this CPU, though, the i7 2600 would be fine don't you think? thanks...

And one other important consideration ... for what I want to do, if the i7 2600 is out of the price range at $250, would the AMD fx-6100 with a 990 FX Mobo be a comparable performing combo for my non-gaming requirements ($310 for both) given it has 6 cores and multi threading, OR would the pure power of the i5 2400 or 2500 (sandy bridge) be still better?

fx-6100 are failure cpu's in performance as compared to sandy bridge 2500k,2600,2600k so they all are faster than AMD fx-6100 or even fx 8150 as well.

intel is much better so yes 2600 can is good enough but as i say it haven't overclock too much.p67 board also a performance series if you can't buy a z68 then p67 is still alive like asus p8p67 pro.

That's what I gleaned from a not so cursory look. I ordered the z68 extreme3 from newegg - microcenter only had the extreme4 in the same line, for $50-60 more.

I'll go with the i7 2600 after all! I couldn't believe the over all statistics of the AMD chip. I used to work at DEC during the alpha days ... a chip release like this on the alphas would have killed the company.

i'll report back in when things are onsite and running... this will be the first time i actually put my own system from the box to the power supply together. Should be fun....
