i5-2500k - Overclock Help needed

Hey guys,

2 years ago, I bought an overclocked Mobo+CPU+Cooler combo (all specs listed in signiture) from Scan, who overclocked the 2500k to 4.6ghz.

This was excellent for 1 year, but after that it started to cause blue screens and failed start ups, so I was forced to return it back to its factory state (which solved the aforementioned problems).

However, I cant help but feel like Im not getting the most out of a CPU designed to be OC'd, and obviously immediately noticed the FPS drop in games.

So my question is, is it worth overclocking to something a little bit higher than the factory boost of 3.7ghz? I was thinking around 4.0ghz.

If it is worth it, could anyone help guide me through it?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

If it's of any help, here are my settings for a 5GHz 2700K (I've built four of these configs):

There's a good SandyBridge thread on overclock.net, and Miahallen's oc guide is well worth reading.

I guess the obvious quandry is, which part of your system went wrong? If it's the mbd then that's
not a problem, there are plenty of low-cost, good Z68 boards available now (I keep buying ASUS M4Es
because they work so well). If it's the CPU though, well that'd be a bigger problem.

What cooler do you have? I recommend an H80i with two Nanoxia Deep Silence fans. Excellent temps,
very little noise. Easily handles a 5GHz 2700K, so a 2500K would be a walk in...
