anything 2 gens above or 2 levels above is a noticable upgrade.
As you have 660, its 860 or 950 or better. If you got for 1050 TI, it will be nice already, I don't think going above RTX 2060 / 1080 will have any effect.
Yes even an upgrade to a 950 would be nice, but there's a value proposition to be made here by going with new hardware.

I'd invest in a 650W or 750W PSU so you can get a better GPU. You can snag some good deals on ebay for GPUs that will be a huge increase in performance over a GTX 660. I snagged an R9 Fury 4GB for $111, R9 Nano 4GB for $125, RX 470 4GB for $75 in the past month.

I don't recommend it at all.

I moved from 2500k@4.4Ghz+2133Mhz 4+4GB+Z77 motherboard to Ryzen 1600 some weeks ago. I have a RX470@1350Mhz too, so its very close to RX580 stock performance. Have tried 3770 (stock) for a while before making the change, almost no gain at all. Pretty much the same performance.

The difference from SB/IB to Ryzen 1600 was huge!!!!!!!

Some games I was having up to 40% of bottleneck. GPU usage on 70%~80% droping to 60% sometimes in very demanding games such Hitman, Control, Quantum Break, Assassins, Shadow of TR, Metro Exodus, Breakpoint, Wildlands, The Division and many others! Frames? Something between 35FPS to 45FPS at very demanding scenarios on these games.

Now I have constantly 60FPS in every game that my GPU can reach it (always 95% to 100% GPU Usage now).

Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge are dead now. I don't recommend any upgrade or investments on these platforms.

About OC on IB and SB. On very demanding games, it doenst make much difference. You will have 10~15% better minimum frames at the best. Some games like Assassins you will have nothing.
