Hi, i have old rig with i5-2500k (mostly running at stock 3.3ghz. Just bought p8p67 mobo to overclock it. No experience in overclocking, plan to overclock 2500k to 4ghz)

Currently using asus r9 290 4gb direct cuii. Games played

1) witcher 3 - ultra settings with shadow set to medium and no AA at 1080p (fps averafe 35-40)

2) ark survival -preset high settings (average fps 30-35) some area dip below 20 - snow area.

My current plan - to overclock my 2500k to 4ghz and see if there is 10% improvement. So make my game more playable. If overclocking doesnt help,

Either buy better cpu i7 2700k / i7 3770k or get myself a new gpu gtx 1070 to improve my gaming experience. Due to bugdet issue i cant have both..

I got 4k tv with 60hertz. Wish to play 4k at consistent average 30fps and willing to lower some graphic settings

Games wanted to play next
I) battlefield 1
2) rise of tomb raider
3) tom clancy ghost recon wildland
4) watch dog 2

What are your thoughts? Please do give me some opinions X (

well in ark your gpu is the "problem", but that's because ark is really badly optimized and with a r9 290 you should be looking at medium settings for a smoother experience. Also make sure you put cloud and ground details etc to low, will give you some extra fps.

an i7 3770(k) would be a nice upgrade for your i5 2500k, but only if you also upgrade your gpu in the near future, because with the r9 290 you probably not see any improvement with the i7 since the gpu will most likely always be at 100%, if you go for a gtx 1070 the i7 3770(k) would be a nice pairing with it. :)

But im quite sure you will be able to OC that i5 2500k to 4,4/4.5ghz and then you will see a nice performance boost. :) So try that first.

I will try to overclock my 2500k first. But i am just using stock cooler. Is it adviseable? Or need to get better like hyper 212, cooler master?

Any cheap and good cpu cooler in the market?

Better late than never, I completely missed your question sorry.

Anyway I would get the 212, it will run much cooler and you can bring it with to a new build. :)

I bought myself a corsair liquid cooler.. now my 2500k stay idle around 40c and never hit 60 even during the game. I havent tried overclocking it. Because games i play, gpu load 100%, but cpu most around 70%... at 3.6ghz overclocked
