From what i can see in tests the i5 2500k is only about 10 percents slower than intel core i5 7500 and about 8 percent in games. Is that correct? Seems like real good value when it comes to upgrading older desktops with 1155.

Check carefully as the k's often have a lot higher clockspeed compared to the non-K version, but might only be a bit more.
if you are upgrading ivy or sandy, then it is much better value to go to an i5/7 2/3XXXK, than a complete platform upgrade, the performance increase may not be worth it. However, it's getting to the time when 1155 mobo's are going to start dying, (my NIC needs an uninstall/reinstall cycle every few days, else it's just not there). So providing you accept that you won't have the latest features, you may not have PCI-E 3.0, and you may have to upgrade again in the next 6-12 months then yes they are a great buy. I'm on a 3570k, so there's nowhere for me to go, but i3/pentium users, the i5's and i7's are a simple update.

i will be upgrading hp and Fujitsu desktops with them that are 5-6 years old for a cheap price, i was just checking if the numbers really are correct that its only 12 percent slower . When it comes to Life of motherboards i understand what you mean but most motherboards seem to be able to last a long time.
