hi is this processors good for gaming i5 3330

other system specs are
two gtx 550ti sli
8gig ddr3 1333mhz ram
intel rapid response technlogy 250 sata 2 drive + 30gig ssd for caching
500gb sata 2 hdd for games
80 gig for music
160 gig for wow etc
blu ray reader
1000w power supply

many thanks oh and a 19 inch syncmaster 940bw monitor

i already had the other components as my old mother board blew up i will upgrade componentsas and when main question is is the i5 3330 as good as i5 2500

It is as good yes - With Turbo it boosts to 3.2Ghz, only 100mhz below the i5 2500, and the IPC on the Ivy Bridge CPUs are slightly better. At worst it will perform the same while consuming less power.

The ivy-bridge architecture is about 10% faster than the old sandybridge at the same clock speeds.

So let us do the math

Clock speed difference between i5-2500 (3.70) and i5-3330 (3.20)

3.70 / 3.20 = 1.15625

1.15625 - 1 = 0.15625

0.15625 * 100 = 15,625%

So, if we cut 10% from the 15,625%

15,625% - 10% = 5,625%

The i5-2500 will be slightly faster. But will also consume more power in the process.

Turbo is determined by the CPU. The CPU will turn turbo on during intense situations where performance is needed. Turbo relies on heat, usage and power. You will not damage the CPU.

I forgot the Sandy Bridge CPUs had decent Turbo Boost - Sometimes I forget Non-K processors exist.

I miss the old days where every processor was prime for an OC. You didn't need multipliers to push a 50 - 100% OC, just a decent proc and mobo and a hell 'uva lot of FSB speed.
