I5 3450 with AMD HD7950

Currently I have a bad mobo and CPU (Intel core duo e7400) with a good GPU HD7950, so obviously I am looking to get a decent CPU. I've been thinking about the i5 3450, do you think it's worth going higher? Or is the CPU good enough for no bottlenecks and intense gaming (Planetside 2, Blops 2 super smooth, Far Cry 3). I am also planning to buy this motherboard http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/motherboards/intel1155z77chipset/z77pro3.html

I mainly have doubts about this CPU because whenever I see someone talking about an i5 it is almost never the 3450.

Both the motherboard and CPU will do you fine.

The i5 you will see most people talking about is the i5-3570k. This runs at 3.4GHz while yours runs at 3.1GHz. Plus the 3570k is overclockable while yours is not. That is about the only differences between the two.

That cpu is a good one. Im currently using a phenom II x4 975 which is a tier lower than a i5 3450 in tomshardware gaming cpu hierarchy ._look here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Make sure your motherboard supports your cpu before you buy it.

I think it is almost funny how little respect the other Intel® Core™ i5 processors get compared to the Intel Core i5-3570K. Sure the Intel Core i5-3570K is a great processor but the other Intel Core i5 proessors are also good they just have the flexability of being easily overclockable.

I agree. especially for gaming! The other i5 cpu's are quality. Sandy bridge is the reason im moving from amd. Ive had enough. The prices for intel cpu's have reduced lately which is a good move. The price gap which there use to be was too much in the past. Nice too see

3450 is IB update of 2400, which i use. I run with a 7870 and have no problems. As a matter of fact it was a Tom's $200 CPU round up article that made me purchase my i5 2400. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-fx-pentium-apu-benchmark,3120.html . the 3450 should be more than enough to handle a 7950.
