i5 3470 on a 600w PSU?

Hi at the moment i have an i3 3240 and an R9 280 running on a Corsair 600w PSU i want to upgrade my CPU to an i5 3470 but somebody i know looked into things and says i would need a higher watt PSU like maybe an 800w...does this sound right? the only other things i run off my PSU is a 2tb hard drive and a regular CD drive...

sorry CPU is a i5 3570k that i want to get

No the CX600 is fine with the upgrade. 😀

No, if your current PSU is working fine with your configuration, the i5 has only a 20-30w difference which still falls well within your PSUs capacity.

Actually, you already have AT LEAST 100w of headroom as is, so you'll still be very much within tolerance, by a long shot.

Im looking forward to getting rid of this i3

While it isnt a bad cpu i think i5 is pretty much the least you need really with modern gaming
