i5-3550P vs 4670 w/o Overclocking

I'm about to buy the parts for my first gaming computer, but I'm stuck on the processor.

Should I get the i5-3550P or the i5 4670. I have no plans on overclocking. The price difference is $40 ($180 3550P and $220 4670).

Adding 4% to the overall price, for a ~10% faster CPU. Both are viable options.

By the way, you don't need a Z77 or Z87 motherboard or watercooling for these CPUs - they can only be overclocked a little bit. If you want overclocking, you should get a Core i5-3570K or 4670K.

So you'd suggest the 4670? Would I really notice the difference?

And I agree, water cooling is a bit much, but the Intel RTS2011LC Liquid-Cooling Kit is really cheap right now (57% off its $100 price tag). What motherboard would you recommend for no overclocking?

In most cases you wouldn't notice the difference. In a CPU-limited situation you'd get around 10% better performance which is noticeable, but only barely. In GPU-limited situations you'd get no improvement. It's a close call.

For the 4670 you could get something like an Asus B85M-G, or an ATX B85/H87 mobo if you want more expansion slots. For the 3350P you could get a B75 mobo if you don't mind having only a single SATA3 port, otherwise go H77.
