I have a i5-3570k, long story short my stock CPU cooler broke (doesn't seat properly because one of the legs are broken). Anyways, when its idling it sits at 60-70c but when playing games it jumps to 100c, it hasnt shut off on me yet so would you say that its fine to use it for about 30 minutes at 100c? I'm getting a Hyper 212 EVO in about 2 days or so..

Just to correct an earlier reply.

Intel recommends temperatures below 67.4 celcius (Ivy-bridge), as temperatures beneath that won't have any effect of the performance of the CPU. Temperatures close to the absolute MAX, which 105 celcius, will be bad for the CPU and you might get a fried CPU or shut downs eventually.

Don't you got a stock heatsink by Intel? They will suffice for now and it's actually quite a good cooler for its size.

I have a stock heatsink but it goes to 100c. its because i took it off and put artic silver 5 and had to reseat it. I gave the artic 5 to a friend and the stock cooler doesnt sit correctly. Ill probably take off the cooler and reseat it with some tooth paste

Reseated the CPU, put a dab of toothpaste on it also and the temps are in the 80's when I'm playing games. guess i will just wait it out for my hyper 212 .. what kind of overclock can i get with that cooler anyways?

A Titan has 250 TDP, so you're saying it can get 250 celcius, huh? The TDP is measured in watts, the more watt a component draws, the more heat it will put out. Simple physics. The TDP doesn't tell the safe operating temperatures a component has.

+1
The TDP is a components power draw, and by extension a good estimate of its heat output. Its maximum operating temperature is known as its TjMax, which for the 3570k is 105°C.

However in daily usage you don't want to be running anywhere near 105°C, I would say at most have it at 70°C for extended periods of time.

Yeah I was wondering why these guys were bringing up TDP, it has nothing to do with heat ... Yeah I used toothpaste and it worked but BAKED on my CPU I went to RadioShack and bought some thermal paste and now it sits at 65-70c at 3.0 GHz under clocked.
