Hi just a quick one, does anyone here have any advice on the temperatures I can expect using the stock fan of a i5-3570K if I OC from 3.4 to 4.2Ghz?

Is that going to be a jump in temp so that I'd need an aftermarket fan or will the stock fan be adequate?

Also any advice on safe voltage or temps for that CPU as well would be handy.

Cheers.

You most certainly will need an aftermarket cooler. The most you should do with a stock cooler would be .1-.2 safely. That is a big bump to remain the baseline.

You can pick up a quality heatsink for $25-40 which will be more than enough for casual OC-ing. I OC-ed an old Phenom from dual core (unlocked to quad core) up from 3.1 i believe to 3.5-3.6 with never getting close to dangerous temps. This is with a fan and heatsink that cost $30. Still my CPU since 2009 and works like a champ.

Hi,

I have seen a lot of core i5 k2500 @ 4.2 on stock cooler and the cpu never gets higher than 60 - 65.

I do know that ivy runs a little bit hotter, but all cpu's are different

I say try it and monitor your temps but read about overclocking before to be sure of what you are doing.

If you can't keep your temps low, get an aftermarket cooler.

Yeah I know what I'm doing I OC'ed my 3Ghz Athlon II X4 651K to 3.4Ghz off of the stock fan I just don't know what the Intel's run like.

Do they go from 3.4 to 4.2Ghz easy enough voltage wise or do you have to give it quite a boost? temps usually mainly increase due to voltage.

I'm getting the i5 at the end of the month so just wanted to clear up if I'll def need the fan or not, my Athlon runs fine off the stock fan.
