I5 3570k overclocking!

Hello dear community, I'm interested in overclocking my i5 3570k.

Now going in to bios (Gigabyte UEFI DualBios) I want to simply change core from 3.4 to around 4-4.2. Now of course, there always gotta be some kind of problem.

I cant get it higher than 3.6! It just doesnt let me, I try to use the right arrow to go higher, or put in my own number. It doesnt let me!

What is going on?

Sidenote: Can I OC it to around 4.2 without touching voltage?

This may mean that you have a locked motherboard.

As you may, or may not know, you need the 'Top end' motherboards for your unlocked CPU to be overclocked, not necessarily true, but you need the rated chipset for it.

I doubt you will be able to get 4.2GHz without editing voltage, but you'll probably be able to get it at around 1.2V, which is quite low.

What motherboard do you have exactly? That will assist me, and I will recommend the correct chipset for your CPU to be overclocked.

You could also attempt to add a modded BIOS, but there are a lot of risks in doing so, AKA bricking your motherboard (Unless you have your BIOS disc for your motherboard, then it will most likely be revertible).

Not sure actually, what motherboard do you have? I might have got my information incorrect.

But your CPU can boost up to 3.8GHz, have you tried putting in that in? Guessing that you have.

After reading this thread, you may need an Z77 Motherboard, do you have this, or do you have a H77 or anything else?

After reading this thread, you may need an Z77 Motherboard, do you have this, or do you have a H77 or anything else?

My dad built my computer about 5 years ago, not sure which motherboard I have... Could this be it? : B75M-D3H (Gigabyte)

It wont stop you from setting the clock speed without upping the voltage.

The above confirms what I said, didn't see you edit the MoBo into that comment.

Youd need a Z77 Motherboard I believe.
