Hello All,

Have the stock cooler on my i5 3570k CPU and I noticed the temps while gaming were not the normal average of 70c range and instead hitting 90c.. and also while playing Dead Rising 3 the FPS would go from like 50+ to 25 in a spike.

So I opened up the case and noticed one of the plastic cpu cooler locking pins (Can twist clockwise/counter clockwise) was not pressed into the mobo and also not turned to "Lock".

After pressing it in and heard a click and locked it, booted back PC and now it sits around 75c.

This can have been months of not knowing about this so wondering if I have damaged my CPU in any way? Also the spikes have gone from the game that I was noticing.

Cheers.

So the there can't be any damage, say if the heatsink/cooler isn't on the CPU 100% like say its raised up a bit and not getting contact..

That seems to be my only reason for the crazy FPS drops while hovering around 90-95c.

The cooler works fine when it was ACTUALLY plugged into the motherboard and had contact haha, I'm buying a Cryorig R1 so I can OC but yeah this cooler for now is keeping me 70-80c while gaming at 3.8 Turbo speeds.
