I currently have an i5 3570K @Stock speeds (Mobo won't allow OC) and I'm looking to upgrade to something abit more powerful and future proof as I notice I'm maxing out CPU usage in a few games.

My current system contains :

- GTX 970 Strix (OC'd)
- i5 3570K @Stock
- 8GB DDR3
- 240GB SSD
- 600W EVGA

I'm unsure of what to go for, I know I'd need a new mobo for any upgrade path apart from the 3770K

Any help appreciated.

I was wondering that, just need some help on a choice. What kind of performance increase am I looking at?

A good deal, in the games that get maxed out, mabey 20-30fps

I would get one of the ryzen version based on price/preformace. Unless you want to wait a bit, then intel may become an option. It would only be a, at most, 15-20% improvement in most games, ryzen still beats in some applications though.

Another thing is intel runs hot now and uses more power (the irony). So you will need a new cooler for 5ghz overclock, like a AIO cooler

Hope this helps

It runs about 70-78C depending on the game, I also have a Hyper 212 on there also.

Thank you for the in-depth reply,

I should've really mentioned about a budget. I'd have about £350 ($460) to spend on a CPU/Mobo (depending on DDR3 or not). I'm also not bothered about having the greatest and newest parts (e.g Sli compatible ect I can go without), I'm happy with a few years old if it's the best option.

I also already have a Hyper 212 cooler which I'd happily keep if possible so minus that too, and no serious OC would ever be done.

How good are the 66/6700K/76/7700K processors? What kind of performance am I looking at with those? I'd preferably like to stay with Intel.

I'm also only gaming at 2560/1920x1080.

Total budget of about £350. I was looking at a 7600K/7700K with a Z270-A mobo. Leaning more towards the 7600K as I'd also need DDR4 RAM which is quite expensive!

I think I'm going to go with the 6600 and the B150M-K D3 motherboard, or a 6600K and a Z270-A PRO. Can't decide if I want to spend the extra £80 on 8GB's of DDR4 RAM.

Opinions?

Yeah I only ever game and browse the web.

Isn't the 6600K better? I just watched a brief video on YouTube of a comparison and the 6600K won 9 times out of 10.

Ryzen means a definite upgrade to DDR4 doesn't it? I kind of want to stick to my DDR3 to reduce the extra £80 on 8GB of DDR4. That's the reason I'm thinking more towards the 6600K.

Do you know of the best 1151 DDR3 motherboard/the cheapest 1151 DDR4 motherboard?

What about finding a nice Z77 motherboard with OC ability, adding a 240mm AIO liquid cooler and bumping your turbo clocks to 4.6ghz? That is what I am running (5 year old board and CPU).

You could then save the rest of your budget something else, or save it for down the line.. I have a GTX970 in mine, and get 60FPS minimums at 1080p (on the games I play). Since it was a prebuilt system, perhaps a decent case.

You could get a refurb board and case for less than $200USD and your current cooler will keep it under 75degC
