I5 3705k vs i7 2600k SAME PRICE on Newegg. Which one??

They are selling both at 230$. The i7 supports Hyper Threading and is more future proof and is easier to OC, from what they say. Guess it's pretty obvious to go with the i7?

The Intel Core i7-2600K does have hyper-threading but unless the way games are written changes soon it won't make a bit of difference. Also since the Intel Core i5-3570K has better IPC performance it does have to clock as high as the Intel Core i7-2600K to get the same results.

If you are going to do something that will take advantage of the hyper-threading by all means go with it. However if you are trying to build a gaming system forget about the Intel Core i7-2600K and go with the Intel Core i5-3570K.

Total mistake on my part, read the prices wrong.
I got my first desktop pc about 4 years ago and haven't changed a thing, I'm more of a guy that tends to buy prebuilt but wants to commit to building one and let it run for a couple years, so I guess If I want to future proof the rig I better go with the i7, money-wise is not a problem and I might also use it for music production, would you still recommend the i5?

why? I never overclocked a single hw component so the 3570k seems a better fit, and the 2600k is 60 $ more.

Nah go with the 3570k. It is more than you need for gaming, trust me I have one. The 2600k doesn't offer any advantages for gaming over the 3570k and therefore doesn't warrant the price difference. The architecture of the 3570k actually makes it faster for gaming at the same clock.

also with microcenter is if you get an Ivy Bridge i5 3570k or the 3770k they knock like 50 bucks of a motherboard if you buy them as a pair.

I guess the question should be with a good videocard (probably overclocked) would the I5 be sufficient. I have heard only good things about the 3570, but is there that much of a difference between that and an overclocked 2600k or is the I5 good enough alone?

I am actually building a machine with the 3570, but have considered getting an I7 also. But in gaming right now most games do not utilized hyperthreading one bit.
