Hey Everybody

I was thinking on getting a whole new system for playing games, until a friend told me that my CPU wasn't that bad and he told me to consider making a system around the CPU i already have. The CPU i am talking about is a I5-4440, but i am not sure if this would be able to handle most upcomming and new games.

I picked some parts for both builds.

First the I5-4440 build

CPU: i5-4440

GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GAMING X

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212X 82.9 CFM

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory

Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z97X Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 550W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

+ New Case
+ Operating system

900 euro

New System

CPU: Intel® Core i5-7600, 3,5 GHz (4,1 GHz Turbo Boost) socket 1151 processor

GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 DUAL O6G

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO, CPU Cooler

Ram: Corsair 16 GB DDR4-2133 Kit

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME Z270-K, socket 1151

Storage: WD Blue, 1 TB

Power Supply: Cooler Master B600, 600 Watt

+New Case
+Operating System

1150 Euro

Using my old CPU would safe me some money. but i don't know if its worth it. Like i don't want to be buying new parts next year. So i i would like some advise, and let me know if you would change some of the parts to make it even beter without making it cost to much.

Solution
Usually new processors cost the same as the old ones.
Why are you getting a Z motherboard and non K processor? If you are not planning to overclock your processor just take non Z motherboard it will be cheaper. If you won't overclock you don't need an aftermarket cooler.
Whats the point going to the old hardware then you can get a new for a similar price.
And you should not compare i5 7600 with i5 4440, as i5 7600 correspond to i5 4690. And i5 4440 correspond i5 7400.
So if you take i5 7400 you will get similar price.
With new hardware you will be more future proof.

The first option is better, not worth spending more money on the second option where you have the same GPU but only a slightly better CPU. Cpu generation won't matter much in my opinion even though its performance is 20% better it won't really make a difference in modern games except star citizen(and other cpu dependent games) at best around 3-5 fps increase as the i5 4440 suffices.

If you currently have a i5 4440 I wouldn't waste any money on new CPU, ram, motherboard.
I built a PC for a friend a few months ago using a i5 4440, and he's happily playing battlefield 1 @ 1080p 60fps with it + R9 280X.

If you want a new CPU i'd personally reccomend the AMD 1400 or 1500.

Intels only competitive offerings at the moment are the extreme low end dual-core with hyper threading pentiums and the high-end gaming 7700k.
Everything else inbetween, go AMD ryzen.

Agreed.

Add some RAM, upgrade your video card, maybe add an SSD and call it a day. Anything else you do is spending money for no benefit.

Oh, I did not see that you already have an i5 4440 CPU. That changes situation, it is cheaper to build your system on current CPU. I5 4440 and GTX 1060 6GB is a good combination for two years or maybe more, depending on your expectation of graphics settings in games.
