I cuurently own a sandy bridge motberboard and there an i7 2600k I can buy should I get or get an i5 440 with a new haswell board my usage is mostly gaming note I can afford a higher i5 I currently have an hd 770 but will upgrade later to a somthing like a gtx 760 later so dont want any bottleneck

the 2600k is a legendary processor. since they overclock farther with less cooling, it would have no problem keeping up with todays 4790k. if your not going to overclock, its still a better choice than any i5. you could just try to find an i5-2400 or 2500k since if this is for gaming there is no benefit from the i7 hyper threading cores, or even an i7-2600 non k version, save a little money. otherwise, any sandy bride i5/i7 or newer does not bottleneck any gpu configuration known today. but dont uproot an entire motherboard if you can just drop a relevant cpu right in.
