i5 4460 bottlenecking GTX 1080. Upgrade to 4770/4790 or completely upgrade to Ryzen?

Hello! I used to own a GTX 1060, but I had saw someone selling a 1080 for $400 around summer last year. It was such a good price I had to sell my 1060 and pick it up if you guys are wondering why I have a weak CPU for a 1080.

I play OW in 1080p 144hz and a couple other games like Mass Effect Andromeda, TW3, etc. and at times my cpu reaches at 100% usage. So I get really annoying stuttering as of recently. I understand that it's time to upgrade my CPU but i'm not sure which path I should go for. I have a locked motherboard by the way. I'm not sure if a 4770 or 4790 is sufficient enough for a 1080. Or if I should completely upgrade and buy a ryzen 1600 or 1700, DDR4 ram, and new mobo.

The reason i'm wondering is because I was suggested to hold out another year until the 2nd gen Ryzen or whatever they're called is out and I should upgrade to that but at times I can't enjoy my games with stuttering. So I should I spend $200 for a 4770/4790 and would that be enough until the next gen ryzen comes out?

Solution
I spent $200 and change for an i7-4790K and it doesn't bottleneck my GTX 1080 ti as far as I can tell on a 1440p, 144hz monitor. So, a non-K chip is more than enough for a GTX 1080 at 1080p.

The 4770 would probably be good enough - no point in paying more for the 4790 if you plan to upgrade to a brand new system in a year anyway.

What happens if you play at 1440p? Any better? DSR if you don't know.

I'd see about buying a used 4790 for now.

Some games it sort of fixes the stutter as I tried the supersampling thing. The cpu usage goes down slightly but it still will stutter.

Why is it stuttering? CPU at 100% or? I'd look at a 46 or 4790. I have the 4690K(no OC) and so far it plays nice with my 1080 Ti.

Correct CPU usage is at 100%, i'll prob look at the 4770/4790 non-k.

Thanks for the info/advice!
