Hi i have a Asus ROG 20AJ........with a. i5 4460 3200 GHZ system my question is can i put in a AMD GPU equal to nividias 1070GTX without having power consumption or over heating issues?

Your title says 970 but your question says 1070, so I assume you're goal AMD is equivalent to a 1070. Which would be an RX 480 (slightly weaker) or an RX 590 (Slightly better), or the new Radeon 5500 XT (same as 590, but newer). You can run these cards with your current CPU. The 5500 XT however comes with new PCIe 4.0 gen interface and a 7nm chip design, so pairing it with an old CPU isn't ideal. But it is good to have if you plan to update soon enough.

A higher power GPU will pull more current from the PSU, and it will put out a lot more heat into the case. So
the answer depends more on your PSU capacity and case cooling or CPU cooling.

So knowing more of your system spec's helps... in particular what case/CPU cooling, case fans and PSU are you using?
