I cant seem to turbo boost my i5 4460 ive enabled turbo boost in the bios, I have put the cpu ratio to 34 all core, ive enabled and disabled eist, but when I enable EIST it seems to say I have 3.4ghz in the task manager but it isnt boosting in games? Someone please help me!??

see here and be sure you got the correct supporting bios for that cpu or a later one above it

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3314175/bios-4590-turbo-boost-compatible-compatible.html

hold on 3.4 is the max boost ??

''Max Turbo Frequency 3.40 GHz ''

https://ark.intel.com/products/80817/Intel-Core-i5-4460-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

do you got that windows power options set to performance ?? if so set to balanced and it will drop and boost as needed not run full blast even at idel

The best way to test is:
1) Open Task Manager

2) Run Intel CPU Diagnostic https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool

3) *Note that "Max Turbo Boost" of 3.4GHz is rarely achieved. There are different Turbo levels depending on how loaded the cores are. There's also only 200MHz difference between base and boost anyway.

So under load I'd expect closer to 3.3GHz.

4) Look at the "SPEED" value in Task Manager which should be changing. During the Intel Diagnostic it should run near 100% for part of the test which again should show as roughly between 3.2GHz and 3.3GHz under the SPEED heading.

sounds right you can see from my screen shot from that link my chip just got to 3.7 its max boost is 3.8 you will get close but not exceed that max with a non ''k'' cpu like mine gets like 3.7887 just a hair under that 3.8 with a hard full load on it

looks like your fine [??]

if you want try this

http://www.numberworld.org/y-cruncher/

just read the instructions on how to run the tests and don't test a run that's over the memory on your board or it will run in swap and take forever to finish

and get the result

Computation Time: 83.863 seconds
Total Time: 93.112 seconds

CPU Utilization: 372.950 %
Multi-core Efficiency: 93.238 %

4 core cpu would be 400% [100% per core]

and watch your boost total i'll bet it gets to as close to that 3.4 as it can just monitor you temps as well

I like using hwinfo64 for this

my bad

well I thought you said '' During this test it was at 100% utilization with a 3.37ghz frequency '' ????

what happened ?

I guess maybe something wrong wioth the cpu or the motherboard or its bios ??? may need to take it to someone like a shop to help with a more hands on approach ?

It appears to be in games its not boosting but in the heaven benchmark it does

still it don't take much for it to boost up anything that triggers cpu utilization it should boost up ?? from a demanding game or just a background task though it may not boost up full but I don't see it being ''stuck / locked ''

with out being there to see it hands on I don't know ?? may need to take it to a shop to have someone look at it with his own eyes and see it in real life and real time ??

i just got a 1070 and it bottlenecks a bit and you would think it would boost

???? should

I use a 980ti and a 4670 [non k] all seems to work fine and dandy

so your saying the CPU don't boost and the card don't boost as well ??? see thing is I cant be here to see with my own eyes to see whats really going on there ?? let him see whats going on wile its running and your pointing things out as you go

that's why I said you need to go find and take it to a computer guy to look at it when your there with him and show and tell in real time on whats going on ..

The gpu is boosting just not the cpu

when you turbo boost your cpu do you touch your cpu ratio? What are your bios settings?

nope all stock bios settings on mine - if I recall all I changed was memory by setting the XMP ita an no k cpu so nothing to be done

even at bios reset to optimized default the cpu should work as normal and expected no bios adjustments should be needed for it at all [all automatic bios controlled ] only a ''K'' cpu is unlocked to make any adjustments like for overclocking

starting to sound like you got mor going on then meets the eye ?? maybe a bad defective CPU or motherboard - that should be just drop it in and use

that's why I say you need to hook up with a computer guy in person to look things over in real life/time so he can see everything that's going on wile its running

I cant do that from here

what your system specs ?? [motherboard -memory - psu, ect... ]

Do you know if the Msi z97 pc mate supports the i5 4460?
