Hey everyone
So my friend wants to buy a new pc and I helped him choosing the components. He will get an i5 4460 but he will be using the stock cooler.
Will the stock cooler keep that cpu cool enough ? I think it will but I just want to make sure

Solution

even if it can't be overclocked and you are going to do intense gaming, I still recommend an aftermarket cpu cooler. Generally, if you temps relatively high over a long period of time, the life of your components decreases.

It depends on what he is using it for. But I always recommend getting an aftermarket cooler especially for gaming. Stock cpu coolers aren't great for keeping low temperatures. But if you're not doing anything taxing then it will keep the system cool

Intel's stock HSF is perfectly adequate for stock settings when installed properly on the first try. Do keep in mind that Intel's warranty is based on the maximum temperature and design power specified, which are much worse than what will typically be encountered even during stress-test scenarios.

Just for clearance, you can easily use that cooler for gaming. A lot of people use Intel stock coolers, they're far from terrible and keep the Intel CPU's at safe temps even at 100% usage. Anything below 75 degrees is good, and a stock Intel cooler does that job.

Aftermarket coolers on stock Intel CPU's are more for noise reduction and extra low temps rather than avoiding overheating etc.
