The title really says it all.. I have a intel i5 4570 cpu and am looking to get a G1 gaming GTX 980 in 2-way SLI.. I was wondering if I would need to upgrade my CPU also for 4k gaming?

Solution
For playing games like Crysis 3 and Metro Redux in 4K maxed, you will need at least an i7-4770. I get high CPU usage in Crysis 3 "Welcome to the Jungle" with everything turned up on an i7-4790k and that's on a single 1080p display and one GPU. Dragon Age: Inquisition in any resolution will bring your CPU to its knees, so you will definitely need an i7 for that game. Several people with overclocked i5-4690k CPUs cannot even run that game!:ouch:
Some people believe that you need an i7 to run two 980s in SLI, but that actually depends on the games being played. Several EA games using the Frostbite 3 and CryEngine 3 graphics engines recommend i7s for optimal performance and that often holds true for SLI / crossfire setups in multiplayer. But in general, your CPU will do fine.

So I should consider getting an i7 if I want to play those graphically advanced games with 980's in SLI + 4k res? Which would you recommend?

The i5 is a great gaming CPU regardless of what GPU's you pair with it. If it isn't good enough to meet your performance goals with GTX980SLI then it won't be good enough to meet your performance goals with any other GPU configuration either. Conversely, if the i5 DOES meet your performance goals with some other gaming GPU configuration, then it will continue to meet your performance goals with GTX980SLI.

Match the CPU to your performance goals.

Match the GPU to your visual quality goals.
