i5 4590/4690 compatible with H87 motherboards?

Alright so I have two questions:

1. Will the new Haswell processors work with an H87 motherboard? I would have thought they would, however on Amazon it says this, "Compatible with Z87 and Z97 motherboards. Z87 motherboard users may need to apply a BIOS update for compatibility. Not compatible with Intel Motherboards." I have a Asus H87-Plus board, still in the box.

2. My 4670 (non K) JUST arrived at my door today for my first build. It seems like retailers just began listing the Haswell refresh today as well. Should I return my 4670 and get a 4690? I know the performance difference will minimal, but it's always nice having the latest and greatest, and the extra .1ghz would be nice.

They should work with no more than a BIOS update. I wouldn't bother sending back your 4670 though. You would never tell the difference between +100mhz.

I searched my mobo on the Asus site and looked at CPU support and the 4690 was listed with this message: "Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool."

So it sound like it should work with a simple BIOS update, right?

The new intel CPU gen4 need not only an update of the BIOS but an update of the firmware of the chipset in addition. That can be performed by the update pack downloaded from AZUS (about 12.4 MBytes) and runing (update.exe) on an OS with MEI installed (MEI from the DVD of the mobo). Then BIOS and chipset firmware are both updated, and the new CPU can run fine. But you need an no new CPU for that, any CPU without the message "before using ..." on the ASUS site.
On the second window of the UEFI-BIOS (advanced mode), one can see the Intel ME firmware version, a line below the BIOS version, witch version passed from 9.0.2.1345 to 9.0.30.1432 on my mobo H87-plus. I do that with an i3-4330 for use my mobo with an i5-4590.
