Alright... I don't know why the i5 4590 is 'better' if it only has 4 cores and the 6300 has six cores, yes I know a single core of the i5 is better. I just want to know why people say its better, I mean it costs way more than the 6300. Can someone just tell which is better? Can you you also tell me why CPU Boss thinks the i5 is better. Thanks

Solution
Its better because the single core performance counts for much more in most apps/games - per core basis its around 30% faster than the 6300 which is a big increase.

However it costs twice as much but is not twice as good.

You pick your CPU according to your needs & budget - sub $100 the 6300 is impossible to beat IMO , if you've got closer to $200 an i5 is a far better option.

OKay, thx but will I be able to run fallout 4 with,
amd fx 6300
GTx 950
8gb ram
????
Or should I upgrade just my cpu to the i5?

If you buy the AMD, then in a couple of years you will be spending lots more to upgrade it again.
If you save up for an i5, it will last a lot longer, and so will be cheaper in the long term.
my son is gaming on a PC with a 7 year old processor... it was very high spec when new, and is therefore still able to keep up with modern requirements

But will I be able to run fallout 4? With the 6300 and gtx 950?

i use to have a 6300. I hade the same questions you did about core vs core. The issue is in the instructions per cycle (or what the cpu can do in a single clock cycle). Something else you need to consider, your cpu will begin to bottleneck your GPU as you get into higher end models. I have an an AMD 8350 and a 390x and my cpu holds my card back in Fallout 4. I have choppy gameplay I would not otherwise have with an Intel card.

I'm not that familar with the 950, but I know its a little older. You might want to try and look up benchmarks for that card with your cpu.

My current system has an i5 4590 and a rx 480 8gb and my framerates are buttery smooth
