So im upgrading from my laptop with a i7 6700hq to a desktop with a i5 4590, but i noticed that the laptop's i7 has 4 cores and 8 threads, the i5 has 4 cores and 4 threads. Does that mean that the i7 is more powerful?
You would probably see an overall improvement with that i5 over that i7, but there might be instances with applications using heavily multi-threading where the i5 will perform "less" than your laptop i7.
