I'm currently running an i5-4590, I found a good deal on an ASUS Rog Strix 1080 but would it be worth getting with my current CPU? How much of a bottleneck would it be? Would it be worth upgrading the CPU to an i7 or replacing the whole machine? Thanks in advance.

Current Specs:
i5-4590
ASUS Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard
16 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz ram
EVGA SuperNOVA 650w power supply

It would be worth upgrading to an i7 if you're going to play cpu intensive games that need a lot of threads. Like Assassin's Creed Origins or Battlefield 1. There would be a slight bottleneck with that cpu you have.
The main question is... what games do you play? Older FPS games like Half-Life are not very system bound with basic graphics and small areas the CPU needs to load up. How about Minecraft? You should be fine but (can't believe I'm about to say this because I hate i7s, don't ask) an i7 would probably work better. Do you play GPU-bound games? You should get that 1080.

I mainly play R6 Siege and PubG but I want to start playing the new AAA games that will be coming out.

I'd go ahead and get it as long as you play at the appropriate resolution. The bottleneck wouldn't be huge anyway as long as you play at 1440p. If you play at 1080p I strongly recommend the 6GB GTX 1060 instead or maybe a GTX 1070 if you want something that will last a little longer. The Strix GTX 1080 is a great card. The reason I don't recommend a GTX 1080 for 1080p is because it's just way too powerful for that resolution and you'll be leaving a lot of performance on the table.
