Hey,

I switched my GPU from a R9 280x to a MSI GTX 1080. I removed all the old drivers and installed the now ones. My CPU is in GTA 5 at 100% usage and my GPU is going up and down all the time. For example from 98% to 25% then to 40% then to 70% then to 15 % and so on. Sometimes it stayes on 98% and i can play normal with 80 - 90 fps. I have my setting om high and i play on 2K with 144 hz.

I know i will get bottleneck with that CPU but thats insane. In other games its ok. I can play them without that many GPU Jumps. My CPU´s max temp while playing is on 70 C = 158 F. Can i do something about that or do i really have to upgrade my CPU.

Thank you guys for your time,

Hemant

Yeah the older i5 with that much GPU is going to be a problem in GTA5, I had a pair of GTX 780ti's and it pushed my i7 3770s to 100% most of the time, Battlefield One was the same.

Only suggestion would be to find a i7 4770k or an i7 4790k, more threads to work with and can give a huge performance boost in GTA5 and any other CPU heavy games.
GTA V is fairly cpu heavy, what are these other games?

As the owner of a 4670k OC’d to 4.3Ghz my view is this cpu is just good enough for 60Hz/FPS in modern AAA games, it’s going to be very limiting if trying to achieve high FPS for 144Hz in modern AAA games.

I can play PUBG on high on this new map with 100-135 FPS. CPU loads are from 80-100% and GPU loads are from 75 -98%. Prey is also a CPU hungry game but runs really nice with high FPS on High settings.

I found a video on Youtube with the same specs as mine and he was playing GTA 5 fine. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmR3GFqvekM )

His CPU is not at 100% all the time and his GPU is all the time over 90%.

Total cpu usage is meaningless, it only takes 1 core to hit 100% for the cpu to limit performance. Let's hypothetically say 2 cores are at 100% and 2 cores are at 0%, this will be reported as 50% usage. Also in many parts of the map his average fps is well below 60.

But my problem is the GPU Performance drops. His GPU is most of the time over 90% and my GPU jumps all the time from 98% to 20% and so on. When it jumps like that, then i have FPS drops and lags.

I think i have a solution. When i set everything to max in GTA 5, then my GPU is stable over 90 % power drain. But when i set it to normal or high, then i have the GPU drops again. Now i have to play with max settings and "just" have 50-60 FPS than 80-90 FPS with fuc.. GPU drops.
