Hi guys my Teenage son has a Asus Rog Maximus VII Ranger with a i5 4670k and 16gb of corsair ram installed, how long will it be before his 4 core 4 thread cpu will need upgrading

All depends on what he is running on it.

24VM's - way past time to upgrade.

Basically if it still does what is needed then save your money until it doesn't. And I do mean save it, this way you don't have that huge upgrade bill bite you in the wallet.
