Hey guys,
I'm currently in the process of upgrading my PC

I'll start off by saying I don't know much about computers

I've currently bought a GTX 770
750w power supply
120gb SSD
A 250gb HDD

So at the moment i'm looking into a new motherboard and CPU.

I've done a bit of research and the i5-4670k looks the most reasonable for the price, my only consideration is if it will be able to play WoW on Ultra at 60+ fps, or if you guys can tell me what it will run like would be excellent, and also the newer games such as BF4

I'll need to find a motherboard to fit the case as the GPU only just fit as its a monster

I have the front fan, rear fan, and the others attached to the components (respectively)

Would water cooling be benefitial?

I would not use it for video editing so that's why I wasn't really considering i7.

Price range is <£300 for CPU and Motherboard

Thanks in advance

Sam

These are the factors to consider with overclocks.

-only games that are currently limited by your CPU will see a noticeable boost, probably few, but BF4 for example could see a big boost from an overclock.
-Power supply must be big enough to accommodate, 750W is more than enough.
-Motherboard has to be a Z board with decent VRM cooling (CPU power phase delivery; how much voltage the motherboard can supply to the processor, if the overclock demands more than the motherboard can deliver, it will hold your efforts back.)...
Well first do you plan on overclocking? and also the new devils canyon i5 is out (i5 4690k) and its got a lot of improvements over the i5 4670k and its the SAME PRICE. Any 1150 motherboard will do, but the recommendation will depend on if you need overclock ability (a "Z" motherboard) or not, then you get something just as good but cheaper.

Generally ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte are first choice brands, anything in the 70-120$ range will likely fit your needs

Thanks for the speedy reply. OC depends on how much of a difference it makes, If I would I'd keep it at a stable rate with heavy load. So how would the games preform with either? and how much would I need to OC?

-Cooling for the processor itself (arguably the most important factor). The stock air cooler that comes with the i5 will probably NOT be enough for an overclock. The Hyper 212 EVO is a great aftermarket air cooler for the processor that will allow you a real overclock. Liquid cooling is also an option for even HIGHER overclocks, also more maintenance, work and cost than an air cooler.
-the new devil canyon CPU (i5 4690k) has new thermal paste in the chip which allows for MASSIVE overclocks, so it would be relatively easy and fun learning experience,

all in all its more of a hobby and learning experience than it is a performance booster. streaming gameplay, Doing video edits or 3d renders you will see a big boost, anything that uses 100% CPU power will see a gain from an overclocked CPU. i doubt chrome will launch any faster 😛

Wow, that's some excellent feedback. I'd hopefully get everything running at quite a low OC first before I look into water cooling then higher OC.

As I don't want to go all in for little gain, when I can progress it slowly to a perfect build. I will only use it for gaming and browsing

to many the costs are not worth the gain. You would probably be better off with a light OC like you said no doubt. Best case scenario get a Z board now, but dont overclock until you really need or want to.having the Z board leaves the option open and are usually not much more expensive.
