i5-4670k Temps difference from stock to CM Hyper 212 Evo

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to check the viability of my temps on my CPU here. I just installed a Cooler master hyper 212 evo last night onto my i5-4670k to help stabilize my temps from stock here is what I am getting..

Room temp: 68-72 F
Stock: 29-32C idle
90+C Prime95 stress test (ouch!)

CM 212 Evo w/ arctic 5 thermal paste: 25-28C idle
73C stable Prime95 stress test

I have read other threads on the website and while my temps appear to be okay I read a lot of variability (people mentions temps at mid 60s?).

My PC specs are as follows...
Cooler Master HAF 932 case (stock fans)
Intel i5-4670k
Nvidia EVGA GTX 770 superclocked
G.Skills 8GB RAM
MSI Z87 GD65 Motherboard

If the processor is at stock speeds and voltages those temps in prime 95 are ok. I think you might have an airflow problem though because those temps aren't great for stock speeds.

Thats probably fine, Haswell does run quite hot. Idle temps are good.

What program are you using to monitor temperatures? Monitoring CPU temperatures is kind of an art, since there are often two sets of temperatures provided for the consumer: CPU Core and CPU Socket.

If you're using the same temperature to monitor idle temperatures as you are load temperatures, you're probably looking at the CPU Socket temperatures, since those provide the best idle temperatures. However, at load, they tend to provide readings 5-15C higher. CPU Core temperatures, however, at the opposite: they provide good load temperature readings, but since they are modified by a type of "weighted equation" they provide weird, sub-ambient temperatures when idling.

Try CoreTemp or HWMonitor, to see if you can cross-reference and figure out which is which. Who knows, maybe your core temperatures are actually around 50C?

I am using CPUID HWMonitor and I am looking at the Package temperature for the CPU temps. I'll try Core temp to get some better feedback during Prime95. When I get around to it I'll post the revised temps on here. =] Thank you I didn't know there was variability in monitoring temperatures

Alright so I reviewed my temperatures and revealed to myself my level of derp. After checking the core temps using Real Temp and other CPU temp monitoring tools I found no difference in the temperature of my cores.

HOWEVER! I did notice I was in fact NOT running at stock settings. I had completely forgotten about the Intel Turbo Boost when I was looking at my CPU monitor and wondering why on Earth my core voltage was at 1.2V.

After disabling intel turbo boost and running truly at stock settings for the i5-4670K (3.4 GHz) my temps are stabilized at 55C. The intel turbo boost had my CPU overclocked to 4.0GHz (hitherto stabilized at 72 C).

Thank you everyone for all your help and I apologize for wasting your time with my absent mindedness regarding intel turbo boost. For future reference for those with really high temps with their i5-4670k, make sure to check your intel turbo boost settings! Your "stock" settings may not be stock at all!

I know this is not my topic, but i am really confused. In the other post about i5 4670k there was a discussion about OC and how people have 1.25-1.3v on stock clocks when i'm having 1.034v at load. And now this. At load i have 48°C and idle 30°C at stock speed (with auto turbo @3.6Ghz). Everything was tested with Prime95 and HWmonitor and Hyper 212 evo
