So I just have a quick question for anyone that owns an i7 4770k. So cyber Monday is coming up in a few months and i was deciding on either an i7 4770k or the i5 4670k, I know the i7 isn't really needed if I am only planning to play games but i do render videos every day and was looking for better render times. The i7 4770k is just a little bit out of my budget BUT I was looking to buy it from micro center on cyber Monday or Black Friday to save some money. Now to my question. Is the i7 really worth it over the i5 in terms of rendering videos and how much do you think i could save if i buy all my pc parts on cyber monday? I know the i7 renders videos faster then an i5 i just want to know if the extra money is really worth it or not. Also i do not plan to do any over clocking.

Heres the PC I plan to build

How much faster does the i7 render videos compared to the i5? For the render settings i use in Sony Vegas i can enable gpu acceleration so that plus and i7 would mean really fast render times? or does the gpu acceleration not make much of a difference? I apologize if that is stupid question but i currently have a AMD APU that doesn't allow GPU acceleration so I haven't really been able to test that out.

*I have no experience with this, and I am only relying on information.*
Hyperthreading is about 20% for programs like Sony Vegas. So, if something were to take about 10 hours on an i5; it should take about 8 hours on an i7.

Also, I would buy a much better water cooler, (e.g. Corsair H100i or H80i), for better overclocking.

As of right now I'm not planning to over clock but maybe sometime in the future. 20% is pretty good I guess. I heard adobe affects is better for rendering for videos do you know of that is true or not?

here is a handbrake test on 4670k on default clock without filters

it take 7 hour to encode a video in handbrake in 4670k at this settings:http://i.imgur.com/En84NdR.jpg
And at this setting 1hr 50 min: http://i.imgur.com/JQ3cddU.jpg

you decide whats good for you.

Most editing programs rely on a higher number of threads to render videos, images and animations faster. I would go for the Core i7, due to it's 8 threads. Trust me, those threads will make a dramatic difference for editing over a Core i5.

I have no idea what hand brake is. I use sony vegas for rendering

ahh okk. im probably gonna go with the i7 4770 instead of the 4770k just to save some money. I dont really edit at all tho. I just change a few settings and render out my video. Thanks for your input.

not used sony vegas yet

On NCH video Editor it takes 2 hours to produce a movie on 4670k

how long is your movie?

i was planning on getting another HDD or even buying an SSD cause I know fraps needs at least to Storage devices to run efficiently. Would you recommend a 1 TB Caviar Black HDD or and SSD with significantly less storage for around the same price?

I struggled with this decision as well and finally just went ahead with the 4770k, the hyperthreading will make a difference and even being able to overclock to 4.3ghz with a Hyper Evo 212 air cooler has made a huge difference. Money well spent imo. I agree with popatim, use ssd for programs and OS, and 2 different HHD, 1 for scratch disk space and the other for storage, it'll really help keeps things flowing and fast.

I don't really have an interest in over clocking because the i7 4770 can run 2 gtx 760s is SLI with no problem at stock speeds. Im currently using an AMD A10 5700 so just an i7 at stock speeds would be a huge improvement to my current cpu. Depending on what the sales are like on cyber Monday then i will most likely be purchasing a 60gb Kingston SSD to use only for my OS and later down the line I would get another HDD or SSD. Besides games theres very few other applications and what not i have on my computer so im not to worried about cluttered files. Once i render out a video and upload it to youtube i delete it off my computer so I dont waste space.

exept an AMD= 8 thread ,the i5 with only 5 eats it alive
